WASC Update: Ongoing Support and Next Steps

WASC Update: Ongoing Support and Next Steps

First and foremost, we want to reaffirm WASC’s ongoing support for all who are being impacted by the current situation in the Middle East.

Your priority is the safety and well-being of your students, staff, and families. Please know that WASC stands with you and fully supports any adjustments needed to planned visits, timelines, and deliverables.

School visits and trainings
As shared previously, we postponed all visits to schools in affected areas that were scheduled to take place this week. We remain in close contact with schools and chairs, and we will continue to review conditions as events unfold. If your school is impacted and you have questions about your visit, timeline, or requirements, we encourage you to reach out so we can provide personalized guidance.

WASC Education Summit and events in Qatar
We also postponed the WASC Education Summit in Qatar that had been scheduled for March 5 and 7, along with related trainings. We recognize how much planning and anticipation goes into these convenings, and we are grateful for your understanding. We will share updated details regarding rescheduling or alternative options as soon as they are confirmed.

New: WASC Crisis Support Toolkit
In response to the current challenges facing many of our school communities, WASC has developed a short Crisis Support Toolkit for immediate use. This two-page resource offers a curated pool of globally relevant references to support student learning, well-being, and continuity of operations, including guidance for schools that may need to transition temporarily to online or hybrid learning environments. It is intended as a supportive offering, and schools may draw upon what best serves their local context and community needs.

Additional resources in development with AISH
As shared in the recent WASC newsletter, WASC and the Academy for International School Heads (AISH) have partnered to develop a broader set of resources focused on crisis leadership, including reflections and stories from heads who have led their communities through challenging times. This resource will become available in the near future.

As always, WASC remains committed to walking alongside our network of schools with flexibility, partnership, and care. If conversation, reassurance, or support would be helpful, please do not hesitate to reach out. We will remain responsive as circumstances evolve.

With our very best wishes,

Margaret Alvarez
