Marty Fricke

Marty Fricke represents the California Teachers Association on the ACS WASC Commission. He began his career in California public high school education in 1995. He was a teacher of both social studies and German in the Merced Union High School District, where he was also the pilot writer and teacher for the district’s Ethnic Studies curriculum, and served as a Mentor Teacher. He moved to University High School in the Los Angeles Unified School District as a school counselor in 1999, and then to Saugus High School in the William S. Hart Union High School District 2001, where he has continually served in the role as a counselor. In addition to his regular counseling assignment, he served for over a decade as the counseling department chair at Saugus High School. He was the lead professional development high school counselor for the Hart District from 2018 to 2023, a role in which he provided professional development programs and ongoing professional development support to the district counselors. Since 2018, he has served as the Hart District Teachers Association (HDTA/CTA) site representative for Saugus High School.

Marty has been involved in the WASC self-study process since the 1990s, serving as a Focus and Home Group leader, self-study coordinator, visiting committee member, and a visiting committee chair. He is committed to the WASC self-study process as a valuable support for ongoing school improvement and student achievement.

Marty holds degrees in German Language and Literature from the University of California, Riverside, in History from the University of Texas at Austin, and in School Counseling from Chapman University. He has been recognized by the National Association of College Admission Counseling (NACAC) with a Certificate of Professional Recognition for excellence in college admissions counseling. In his spare time, Marty enjoys traveling, studying foreign languages, and taking walks with his three Whippet dogs.
